How you can help with India and overall global vaccine equity

I’ve talked with some trusted colleagues and here are tangible ways to help. I’ve divided the list into ways to give, helpful information to send friends/family in India (including translated tip sheets), and other.

โœ… GIVING

๐Ÿ‘‰ 1. Oxygen concentrators directly to Dehli: https://milaap.org/fundraisers/support-arrange-oxygen-concentrators-in-delhi

๐Ÿ‘‰ 2. Oxygen concentrators directly to remote areas in India: https://www.impactguru.com/fundraiser/oxygen

๐Ÿ‘‰ 3. CARE (one of the leading global organizations) has a donation site for the CARE’s Emergency Surge Fund to distribute PPE and hygiene kits to families: https://my.care.org/site/Donation2?df_id=28547&mfc_pref=T&28547.donation=form1&_ga=2.164272959.1091806082.1619283620-612795549.1619180190&fbclid=IwAR01MVrA3KZiS284_PBJGogc7ioUdb7nUIdbAuxCfXoxPhgSc5pu3nIji04

๐Ÿ‘‰ 4. Other immediate ways to give are located here in a living document that is updated as needs arise: https://www.indiacovidsos.org/funding-philanthropy

โœ… INFORMATION

๐Ÿ‘‰ 1. https://www.indiacovidsos.org/ The BEST info out there is from IndiaCOVIDSOS. If you have family and/or friends in India, you should send them this site. This is a grass-roots group to help disseminate tips for managing COVID-19 at home (since there’s a severe lack of beds and oxygen) – including home treatments that do and do NOT work. This info sheet (the picture on the post) is translated into: -English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil

-Other translations are being added daily to this site – https://www.indiacovidsos.org/home-care

๐Ÿ‘‰ 2. The White House is sending testing kits, ventilators, oxygen, therapeutics, $$$, raw materials. It’s a good start. They are also working on how to get already-made vaccines (Aztra Zeneca, etc) to India. I heard Dr. Fauci say that the distribution pipeline and logistics are being worked on. I expect to hear more about that this week.

โœ… OTHER

๐Ÿ‘‰ 1. You can sign the declaration for global vaccine equity through the WHO’s campaign. Advocate for vaccine equity here: Vaccine Equity (who.int)

๐Ÿ‘‰ 2. Change the rhetoric on vaccine nationalism. Promote global solidarity to your friends and neighbors. The first step is education for ourselves on global matters. This week is Global Immunization Week and we are going to spend a lot of time talking about that – including tangible ways we can help.

๐Ÿ‘‰ 3. Continue masking, distancing, getting your vaccine when you can. We cannot declare the pandemic is over and back-to-normal until the rest of the world can say it too. I recognize we are all weary at this point. We all are, friends, and I get that.

Thank you for providing this information. As a New Yorker, I know what itโ€™s like to have too little PPE, and too many people dying for the crematoriums to even handle. And I recall the gratitude we felt when people from less hard hit areas contributed medical resources.

So Iโ€™m grateful to have a concrete way to give back, with some confidence that the money Iโ€™m sending will be used as expected.
