Y’all we have been in this…how many months is it? 589? Feels like it, doesn’t it! We.are.at.the.finish.line. This will not be forever! It’s just the last few miles of a marathon that hurt and your body is already tired. The last few miles will also be the hardest given the huge spike in US cases. Don’t give up now – we are so close to hope. Vaccines will be a game-changer and the responsible and ethical way to achieve herd immunity or normalcy.

👏 👏 A few weeks ago, I did a post on the “Science getting louder!” I used the analogy of climbing a mountain and finally seeing the top after switchbacks. – https://tinyurl.com/y3ec5fu9

Today’s post is about being at the top and seeing the sky – finally. We still have to get through the valleys of the winter – but, there is a sky.

𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐞𝐩. Let me tell you why.

✅ 1. Vaccines are coming – Web-peeps, I cried at this news and you probably did too.

Here’s some highlights:
PFIZER statement: 43,000 people enrolled and followed

-95% effective against COVID-19 beginning 28 days after the first dose.

-170 confirmed cases of COVID-19 were evaluated, with 162 observed in the placebo group versus 8 in the vaccine group.

-Efficacy was consistent across age, gender, race and ethnicity demographics; observed efficacy in adults over 65 years of age was over 94%.

-Safety data milestone required by FDA for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) has been achieved. These safeguards are really, really rigorous.-

Data demonstrate vaccine was well tolerated across all populations with over 43,000 participants enrolled; no serious safety concerns observed; the only Grade 3 adverse event greater than 2% in frequency was fatigue at 3.8% and headache at 2.0%.

-Early results show high efficacy as well. We anticipate the full results in the next few weeks.

OTHER VACCINES: There are many, many other vaccine candidates in the pipeline. Go here to see those: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/science/coronavirus-vaccine-tracker.html

-Dr. Fauci is hopeful some will also work well (see the videos at the end) – so, I’m hopeful too. When the leading expert (Dr. Fauci) says to hope, we hope.

✅ 2. 50 million doses will be available from Pfizer alone at the end of December and 1.3 billion in 2021. Similar ramp-up of production can occur very quickly with other companies. Again, this is hopeful.

✅ 3. Am I nervous about this being pushed too quickly? Nope, see this post where I go into that in detail. https://tinyurl.com/yxsd3fch – Summary – The non-partisan, science safe-guards to ensure vaccine safety are really, really rigorous and have been in place for decades. Our technology to make and test vaccines are much better, cutting the time from animal testing to human testing to production substantially, while still ensuring safety. The stakes are so high for the COVID-19 vaccines too – so, the people in charge of these safety safeguards are watching this closely with an extra-dose of caution.

✅ 4. Will I get the vaccine? Yes, on the first day that I can. Distribution plans will be to high-risk individuals, healthcare workers, etc in the first roll-outs. Amen! My family and I will get it when we can further down on the distribution list.

✅ 5. Don’t believe the myths about these vaccines being pushed too quickly, having 5G, being micro-chipped, being a form of control, or anything in between. I will do more posts on vaccines like I said I would to discuss more about this.

✅ 6. Reinforcements are coming – these are who I call the science-avengers! https://tinyurl.com/y3ec5fu9

We trust the science and hope. I hope this is even more motivation to not meet for Thanksgiving, be vigilant in wearing your mask and staying in. This will not be forever. We are in the final miles.

Here are 2 great short videos on the distribution timeline and COVID safety from the leading experts in this:

***I’m posting Post 4 in this series later today about how to help with pandemic fatigue. I did a phone-a-friend who is an expert in this to help us navigate the “valleys” in these last few miles.***
